In celebration of the 125th anniversary of the admission of the first students to Selwyn in the Michaelmas Term of 1882, Selwyn College is pleased to present Selwyn Celebrated.
Selwyn Celebrated, by Mike Good. This entertaining and absorbing coffee table book traces the origins of the College in seven chapters from the amazing life of Bishop George Augustus Selwyn himself, Selwyn’s eventful early years, and the buildings that did not get built as well as those that did, through to the impact of external and internal landmarks and anniversaries, the changing role of sport in College over the decades, the unique as well as the more typical aspects of Selwyn student life, and the College today.
Thanks to the wealth of personal material held in the Archive from the recent and not so recent past, and the inclusion of anecdotes and reminiscences from alumni and others, this is an original, intimate and richly illustrated story, which will complement the official College history by Brock & Cooper, and tell the tale of a maturing institution through the experiences of those within it.
The book has been researched and written by Mike Good. Mike has lived in Cambridge since his graduation in 1976 and previously worked in the Selwyn College Development & Alumni Relations Office. From 1987 he has compiled and published a computerised index to Pevsner’s Buildings of England series.
This Collectors’ Edition is priced at £100 and is half-bound in special materials with marbled end papers and presented in an attractive slipcase. A donation from each Collectors’ Edition sold will go towards the College’s Fund for the Future which is providing for the College’s next 125 years.
